Nilaga

Ingredients
1 lb. beef, cut into cubes
2 medium potatoes, cut the same size as the beef
1/2 small cabbage, quartered
1 onion, quartered
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 T. patis (fish sauce)
2 T. vegetable oil
2 black pepper corns
4 C. water
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
  1. In a medium pot, heat oil and saute the garlic and onions.
  2. Add water, the beef, black pepper and patis. Bring to a boil then simmer for 1 hour or until the beef is tender.
  3. Add the potatoes. Continue to simmer until potatoes are tender.
  4. Add the cabbage. Do not over cook the vegetables.
  5. Salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve steamed white rice.
